Description: The Lutheran cathedral of Oulu. The original wooden church was built in 1777 but got burned down by the large fire of the city of Oulu in 1822. The church was built again on top of the old stonewalls by the famous architect Carl Ludvig Engel. The restoration works were completed in 1832, but the belfry was not erected until 1845.

Description: This deviation of the river was made for the traditional hunting of the migrating salmon along the main river. A seriesr of small dams are constructed with rocks and boulders along this stream which makes hunting of salmon much easier. This is also known a salmon ladder.

Description: Fox hunting in the past. Food was placed at the top of this wooden structure (eg: a paw of an animal such as that of a hare). The fox will jump up to reach the bait, and eventually one of his feet will get trapped inside the narrow slits at the side of the central column. The fox could die of hunger in this trap of get away with a broken limb (will usually die soon after as he could not catch its prey). This hunting method is now abolished as it is too cruel.

Description: One of the most impressing to say the least stands in the history museum of Oulu was a miniature construction of the city of Oulu back in 1938. One can see the residences on the right, the cathedral at the centre and the large leather factory on the left. Incredible piece of work!

Description: One of the most things that I was impressed about Oulu was wood-tar production. Oulu was also the leading town in Europe for production of tar. It was mad by burning hundreds of debarked pine logs in a large pit in the ground.
